Hiding "Edit" button from display.aspx

I know this has been asked and answered on many other occasions but I feel my situation is slightly different so I am creating my own ticket. I am in a 2013 environment and I have a Change Request Log where we have built an entirely custom form using CSS and Javascript. The "Edit" button in the ribbon leads to a Page Not Found error because of the new forms and we would like to hide the button from all ribbons so that users aren't tempted to use it. I have been able to hide the button from the list view but whenever I open an item the Edit button returns. I do not have the ability to detach the page so therefor cannot edit the PlaceHolder Main to include the CSS and when I click to "Edit Page" and try inserting a script editor web part directly to the display form the page simply refreshes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Carl
