How to show contents of sub-directories using Content Query web part?

I have a bunch of documents listed in sub-directories under a main directory and I'd like to display a list only from a specific sub-directory.

For example:

Documents

  • Staff documents
  • Client documents

I'd like to only show a list of items inside the Staff documents directory.

I'm using the Content Query web part and am able to select the main directory ('Documents') by selecting it under "Show items from the following list", but I'm unable to go deeper.

There is a plus icon next to each directory but clicking them just refreshes the page rather than opening up the structure of the folder. I can manually type in a directory that I know exists (Documents/Staff documents/), but I get an error:

Cannot save all of the property settings for this Web Part. The site URL is not valid. The site URL should refer to a site in the current site collection and should be specified as a server relative URL, as in "/"
