SharePoint is used all over my organization. One SharePoint area that I am responsible for deals with system application support specs which are used by our service desk agents. The specs tell the agents how to handle problem X that a client
is calling in about. The word documents on this SharePoint site are in .doc or .docx format. A lot of my time is spent, ok all my time is spent updating these word documents. An updated maybe called/caused because an application version number
changed, a new support step needs to be added to a spec, application install path changed, new self server links for clients might need to be add, or the responsible resolver group name might have changed.
Currently I can search SharePoint and display a list of documents that contain what I entered into the SharePoint search window. After this though I have to copy each document/link to the document into an Excel sheet to track what documents need to be
changed for what ever reason. Then I go checking out the documents one at a time, match what ever change or addition, checking in the document and then approving the document so my changes are available for others to see and use.
I have just started looking and taking coding lessons to try to do the manual steps above but I have never thought of using SharePoint for the task and if it is even possible. Can SharePoint search the documents listed
on a SharePoint site with the content I using as my search parameters, lets say "Fred". How can I find all documents with "Fred" listed in them and replace "Fred" with "Paul"? How can I find all documents with"Fred" listed in them and populate an Excel sheet so I can show the list of all documents with "Fred" that need to be change or that have been changed.
There is a water boil order here at work and city wide so no coffee, so I hope this made some sense.
