Deploying a .sln I didnt create to my SharePoint Online Dev Environment

I am new to developing APPs with SharePoint Online, I bought a book called Pro SharePoint App Development 2013. The source code comes with a .SLN file for each chapter. When I start the project in NAPA then export it into visual studio a connection seems to be made between my SharePoint Dev environment and the visual studio project. I am able to deploy and view my work with no problem. Where I am having a problem is when I try to load the .SLN that I downloaded from apress. Unlike my project the work did not start on my development site in NAPA, it loads into Visual Studio fine but when I try to run it I am asked for my SharePoint Online Credentials. I enter them in and it gives me a "Something went wrong - We're sorry, sign in isn't working right now. But were on it! Please Try again later" and a correlation ID and everything. When I run a .SLN that I built after exporting to visual studio from NAPA and following along in the book I don't have this problem. Is there a location in the App Project where I need to enter the site collection information or other info? I am not sure how visual studio would know what the development environment I want to use is.
