SharePoint 2013 Timer Job

Hi all Gurus - Is SharePoint 2013 timer Job a better way to export all the list items weekly to the SQL Table? We need to keep this list clean. It get filled by 200 items per day. For the analysis we want it to export to SQL table. Do we write timer job the same way as we used to write in earlier versions? I had created some jobs in 2010.
