I've used ECT to create external lists which provides quick and easy crud capabilities. I am faced with a new requirement that ECT was brought up as a possible solution. We need a way to check on where a user is in a hierarchy relative to a user. This check happens during a workflow to determine who a task can be escalated to. So an employee would be presented with only their supervisors or managers.
We would like to define this hierarchy once in SQL Server for multiple applications to use. Ergo, an External list that points to the tables makes sense at first pass. My concern is that this list is going to be hit a whole bunch given a workflow needs to access it and I'm not sure if an external list is the best way to do this. Thoughts?
