Will Designer 2013 do the trick?

Hello friends,

I've been tasked with moving an MS Access app into Sharepoint 2013. I've written several Access 2013 Web Apps for Sharepoint 2013, and there's no way Access 2013 Web Apps have the features or flexibility needed for this particular App.

The backend database for this App is SQL Server 2012, and I can use BCS to connect to the data with Sharepoint 2013.

I was thinking I could use Sharepoint Designer 2013 to build out the front end and create all the forms I need. But after starting to look at Designer, I'm getting worried. Pretty much all the tutorials, etc I see for Designer 2013 refer to workflow - which is something I don't really need. There's all sorts of 3rd party apps for SharePoint 2013 forms creation, like 'Forms Designer', Dell's 'Quick Apps', etc. Do these exist because Designer 2013 deficiencies?

This MS Access app does data validation on the forms and uses quite a bit of VB code. I don't mind getting dirty with some programming, but is Sharepoint Designer 2013 going to be able to allow me to build an equivalent Sharepoint 2013 front end for this app? Or, should I invest in a 3rd party solution?

Any comments are most appreciated,

Stephen Barash
