Unable to save site as template after activating and deactivating Publishing Feature

Hi

I have created a site using the Project site template. By mistake I activated the Publishing feature. Because I needed to be able to save the site as a template, I deactivated the Publishing Feature Again, but I am still not able to save the site as a template. The menu item is still not visible. I have spent a lot of time on the site, so I would like to be able to undo whatever prevents me from saving the site as a template.

Any suggestions?
