How to set up variation for two languages in two site collcetions?

Hi Everyone,

We have created a site collection for our new intranet. We also want to have English and French languages for this site. First we created the VariationRoot.aspx on top and two sub sites for English and French. Because the Master page has been modified, the problem is the two subsites shared the same master page. Therefore we decided to create two site collections. One Site collection is English and one is French. Each one has it's own language Master page. My question is where I can set the variation label and VariationRoot.aspx? How will this work? And how the Term works?

We are using SP 2013.
